Welcome.  If you listen to NPR there's a good chance you've heard my work.

I'm a longtime editor, producer and essayist for NPR's flagship shows and podcasts.

I have a background in film - with Ken Burns - and teach journalism at Georgetown.

I'm also podcast host and creator - of Twenty-Four Seven: A Podcast About Caregiving,
It's based on my experience caring for my dad in his final years.

I help America tell its stories on air, online, and in public.

I work at the intersection of journalism, art and digital technology.

Take a look - and listen - to some of my work.

Then let's talk about what we can do together, to make your voice heard.

I write the words
that wake you up

As a veteran NPR producer, most recently as Supervising Senior Editor of "Morning Edition," I've edited, written and produced thousands of the stories and interviews America wakes up to.

I write essays, create series, and support new voices in in radio, film, digital and public spaces.

You can learn more about some of my favorite NPR projects, below.

I help us show and tell
our history

I was one of the producers of Ken Burns' "Civil War" series, for which I won an Emmy Award.  We also produced a history of the US Congress, for PBS.

As a Nieman Fellow at Harvard in 2014-2015, I studied how we create a "visual vocabulary" as journalists and citizens.

My work in radio, film and digital fields has the common denominator of sharing our stories and creating civic culture.
